After an undefeated 15-0-3 regular season resulted in a trip to the Division 2 South semifinals, there's no doubt the Medfield boys soccer team was the class of the Tri-Valley League in 2007. Yesterday, coach Jason Heim's club showed it may be just as talented as last year. Behind a two-goal performance from junior Meelad Etezadi and a two-assist outing from playmaking midfielder Andrew Day, the Warriors cruised to an impressive 5-0 win over visiting Ashland last night at Memorial Field. Medfield (3-0-1, 3-0-1 TVL) dominated the run of play, controlling possession for the vast majority of the evening, and despite a mediocre effort around the Ashland goal, the Warriors still popped in five tallies - four in the second half. A big reason why Medfield was having trouble finishing, though, was Ashland goalkeeper Kellen Rauch. The captain finished with 15 saves, several of them coming in acrobatic fashion, keeping the Clockers deficit at one deep into the second half. "He's one of the best goalies in the league; we knew coming in what his abilities were," said Heim. "We talked about finishing and we had plenty of opportunities in the first half. He had to make some great saves and he really kept them in it." Rauch had already thwarted three decent Medfield bids by the time the Warriors finally scored in the 18th minute on a brilliant individual effort by junior Erik Lindgren.
