It’s been two months since the Giunta family moved into their new home on Elm Court, and Renee and Paul Giunta say the experience has been many things: Overwhelming. Exciting. Fun. Amazing.
From the simple, concrete world of 2-year-old Brianna comes perhaps the best summary: The child beams, opens her arms up and says, “Daddy!”

Courtesy of ABC’s “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” and hundreds of volunteers from the community, the Giunta family now has a home where all five— Paul and Renee, both 38, and their three children, 7-year-old Dylan, 4-year-old Cameron and Brianna — can live together for the first time.
The day Brianna was born in March 2006, Paul was returning home from the hospital when he was in a devastating car accident, suffering severe brain injuries. His family was told he’d never walk or talk again, and he spent months in the hospital and in rehabilitation. But he pulled through and gradually was able to talk and then begin to walk with assistance.
But because he needs a wheelchair and a walker, Paul couldn’t live at home with Renee and their children, because their house was not suitable. The hallways were too narrow and some of the floors were on different levels.
