According to the team’s coach, the Manchester Essex District 15 Williamsport Little League team bore more than a passing resemblance to their scheduled Tuesday opponents, Danvers American. “I know that they got beaten pretty bad in one game, and in the other game, they played pretty well,” said Manchester Essex coach Keith Leavitt, Sr. of his team’s slated foes. “They’re similar to us in that we’ve played those two types of games. You always assume that Danvers, like Beverly, is a good ball team. I’m not expecting anything other than a good team showing up, so we must come up with a good game.” Thankfully, those comparisons ended on Tuesday night when Manchester Essex toppled Danvers American by a 4-3 score to move onto their next foe, Ipswich, framing a matchup with Cape Ann’s neighbors located just down the river. The District 15 game against Danvers was scheduled for Wednesday evening in Salem. As stated by Leavitt, Manchester Essex started the tournament out with one spectacular performance – a 7-0 victory over Gloucester National in the opener two weeks ago – and then followed it up this past Saturday with a 12-2 loss to Beverly East, in a game that seemed to be at the opposite end of the spectrum from the first one. “We had a terrible game,” said Leavitt of the loss to Beverly East. “We didn’t play well at all.
