The 13th annual Walk and Candlelight Vigil, sponsored by the Melrose Alliance Against Violence, will be held on Sunday, Oct. 19 at 4 p.m., and one Malden business owner is helping the fight against domestic violence by selling her designer bracelets for the cause. The two-mile walk around Ell Pond begins and ends at the Melrose Veterans Memorial Middle School. The purpose of the Walk is to honor victims of domestic violence and raise awareness and funds for MAAV’s outreach and prevention programs. In Massachusetts alone, 30 people, including fpir children, have been killed over the past year as a result of domestic violence. This year MAAV is selling domestic violence awareness bracelets in conjunction with the event and as part of Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Jeannette Dion, owner of Salem Street Beadery in Malden, whose own life has been affected by domestic violence, designed the bracelets especially for MAAV. The “Breaking the Chains of Domestic Violence” bracelet features silver chain links and glass crackle beads in purple, the color representing domestic violence awareness. The bracelets are $15 each, with 100 percent of the proceeds going towards MAAV’s services for victims of domestic violence and prevention programs in the community.
