On Wednesday, the latest iteration of the Star Wars saga crash-landed on game consoles around the world. LucasArts, the gaming division of Lucasfilm Limited, released Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, an installment of the Star Wars saga that falls roughly in between the two film trilogies. "The development teams here at LucasArts, at Krome Studios, and at n-Space, Inc., have put a tremendous amount of effort into creating this all-new Star Wars story and innovative technology," said LucasArts President Darrell Rodriguez. "I can't wait to hear what fans think of it when they've played through the game." The game begins with players in the role of the iconic Darth Vader, but partway through the focus shifts to a secret Vader apprentice named Starkiller. So far, initial reviews for the game have been mixed, with many arguing that the entire game should be played from Vader's perspective. Some have also expressed disappointment that the game does not allow the Nintendo Wii controller to be used like a lightsaber. Adding To a Franchise Nonetheless, the overall popularity of the 31-year-old Star Wars franchise should ensure a warm welcome for the new game. According to Anita Frazier, industry analyst for toys and games at NPD Group, "Star Wars games generally sell very well, and the Star Wars franchise is one of the top 10 video-game franchises of all time."
