Is it a reasonable expectation that I should be able to communicate with prospective new tenants in English? My Spanish is very rusty and I am not able to speak or read & write in Spanish. I have prospective tenants, one of whom does not speak English at all. The wife, who does speak imperfect English, says she will translate for the husband. What happens if she is not around? Am I being unreasonable to expect or require prospective tenants to communicate in English, read, write, speak? Would I be discriminating against a protected class, ie. Hispanic if I require proper communication? After all, it is their choice to live in a predominately English speaking country and not learn English. TX. ...
