The Courier-Journal of Louisville has named Arnold Garson as its new president and publisher. Garson, 67, who had been president and publisher at the Argus Leader in Sioux Falls, S.D., takes over for Denise Ivey as the top executive at Kentucky's largest newspaper. Ivey announced her retirement in June. The newspaper announced Garson's appointment on its Web site Wednesday. Both the Argus Leader and The Courier-Journal are owned by Gannett Co. Garson acknowledged that American newspapers are facing difficult financial times and that changes inevitably will occur at The Courier-Journal.
