When General David Petraeus was tasked with training the Iraqi army a few years ago he failed big time. Since then he's been busy in Iraq entertaining Ahmed Chalabi and making threatening noises at Iran despite insufficient evidence. Now he's head of the US Army Central Command.  That's how the Peter Principle works. As I wrote in the past " "Petraeus has already established a record of failure as a senior commander in Iraq. "A few years ago, Petraeus failed to turn Iraq's so called new army into a fighting force and was either incompetent or complicit in also failing to note that the Iraq procurement budget was being embezzled to the tune of $1.2 billion resulting in obsolete or inferior weapons for the Iraq army he was in charge of training."  Now the LATimes reports that the US is spying on the Iraq army via satellite because it doesn't trust that country's military. "Caught off guard by recent Iraqi military operations, the United States is using spy satellites that ordinarily are trained on adversaries to monitor the movements of the American-backed Iraqi army, current and former U.S. officials say. "The stepped-up surveillance reflects breakdowns in trust and coordination between the two forces. Officials said it was part of an expanded intelligence effort launched after American commanders were surprised by the timing of the Iraqi army's violent push into Basra three months ago.
