Iraqi security forces have detained a man suspected of being the leader of al-Qaeda in Iraq. Abu Ayyub al-Masri, an Egyptian national, was arrested in the northern city of Mosul following a tip-off from a captured associate. The arrest comes as a major blow for al-Qaeda and other Sunni insurgents in Iraq. Al-Qaeda is being held responsible for a large number of attacks, including the 2006 bombing of a revered Shiite shrine in the city of Samarra, which set off a wave of sectarian violence. ...
