Oh, what a comeback. The Ipswich Little League All-Stars faced Peabody National Little League’s All-Stars and found themselves down by a 4-0 score early on during the July 7 contest. “We started off very shaky in the field with two errors, and we were throwing the ball around,” said manager Doug Law. “We ended up down, 4-0, with three unearned runs.” But, the team shook it off right away and fired back with three runs in the bottom of the first inning, all three unearned. Erik Fyrer also had a big hit to help get the local offense going. David Dick earned a “clutch” base hit to score Sean Whooley, who had doubled in the bottom of the second, to tie the score at 4-4. Things went rather quiet for the next three innings, until the bottom of the fifth. Erik Fyrer walked, Ryan Slaven reached on a singled and Ryan Law loaded the bases with a no-out single. Ben Rice hit the go-ahead run, and then Zach Angell brought in Slaven and Law for a 7-4 score through five innings. After five innings of striking out nine batters and allowing just one earned run, Ryan Law reached his pitch count and relinquished the ball to Fyrer. Ryan Law also “helped himself out” with two hits in the game.
