Hurricanes produce not only flooding, strong winds, storm surges, and heavy rain but also tornadoes. In fact, about 25 percent of the hurricanes that strike the U.S. spawn tornadoes. In a hurricane, most of the instability is found below 10,000 feet, which produces smaller thunderstorms than what we typically see in Kansas.
