Hurricane Marie formed off western Mexico and drifted through the Pacific Ocean on a path that forecasters said would keep it well away from land. Marie was centered 860 miles west-southwest of the southern tip of Baja California on Friday night, the U.S. National Hurricane Center reported. It had winds clocked at 75 mph and was heading slowly westward. Marie is the sixth hurricane of the eastern Pacific season. Also Friday, a new tropical depression formed 230 miles south of the Mexican resort city of Acapulco. The storm had maximum sustained winds near 35 mph and could become a tropical storm on Saturday, according to the center.
