HomePNA announces
that the 5 millionth HomePNA 3.1 chipset has now shipped, up from 2 million less than
six months ago. The shipments demonstrate the high demand for HomePNA multimedia home
networking devices in IPTV service deployments.
HomePNA is being deployed by dozens of telephone companies worldwide including AT&T,
Aliant in Canada, and Sonaecom in Portugal. With almost 30 certified products, HomePNA
offers service providers more certified products that operate over coaxial cable than
any other standard.
HomePNA 3.1 is the only home networking standard supported by the International Telecommunication
Union, the group currently developing the G.hn gigabit all-wire home networking standard.
It is also one of the local area network interfaces included in the DSL Forum’s TR-069
family of Broadband Home global recommendations.
Manufacturers offer HomePNA chipsets integrated in home networking equipment, enabling
service providers to deliver reliable triple-play multimedia networking service inside
customers’ homes. The technology helps service providers to reduce installation costs,
utilize remote management and diagnostics to reduce operational expenses, and even
reduce end-user costs through unified billing.
