It is no accident that Hancock takes place in Los Angeles. In its own way, Hancock is a cracked mirror of celebrity life in the city of angels. The Hollywood Hills is the equivalent of Mt. Olympus with the Hollywood celebrities and stars descending from their fortresses of solitudes to walk among the common people. Is Hancock any different? Will Smith’s Hancock is an immortal who walks among the mortals in Los Angeles. As the film opens, he displays no interest in his surroundings as he sleeps on a city bench. A kid wakes him to ask him if he is going to go after the bad guys who are being chased by the Los Angeles Police Department. Hancock is not interested; he is hung-over. We know he is not the traditional superhero type. He is not very interested in the part; we learn the citizens of Los Angeles are not that wild about him. Hancock goes into pursuit after the bad guys on the Los Angeles freeway. He flies and brings his alcoholic beverage. A very strong argument ... |
