By SUE SCHEIBLE Rochelle Kruger, 68, of Westwood has been on 11 Elderhostel programs, but until this summer, there was one she coveted but didn’t qualify for. “I had to wait for my granddaughter to turn 6 to go on one of the intergenerational programs with me,” Kruger said. “As an avid program attendee since 2001, it’s the next step.” This week, Kruger and her granddaughter, Aileen McDonald, 6, of Kingston, are participating in a program called “Discovering Plimoth Plantation and Cape Cod Maritime Life.” They’re part of a group of 17 adults and 15 children, ages 6 to 12, from across the country. The program began Sunday night in Plymouth, and they spent Monday at Plimoth Plantation, the Mayflower II, and taking a nighttime ghost walk through downtown Plymouth. The group comes from California, Ohio, Maryland and Michigan, as well as Massachusetts. “It’s a wonderful opportunity for grandparents to pass on little pearls of wisdom and share their own experiences, rather than being with their own parents,” said Priscilla Mariani of Dennis, the group leader for the program. She also suggested that grandparents may be a little more forgiving and have a little more money in their pockets for gifts. At Plimoth Plantation, Jonathan Perry, assistant manager of the Wampanoag Indigenous Program, took the group through the Wampanoag Homesite and the 1627 English Village.
