Summary of what I heard, which wasn't everything.
Regarding Tonga...
He did not fault Tonga personally, but he basically supported
Merlin's nephew that in most cases a BYU player has to try to fail,
and even said that sometimes (he clarified that he was NOT
referring to Tonga necessarily) players push back, when given
assistance and help.
What I took from it was that this suspension was on Tonga
alone.
Huge respect for Bronco and his approach on this. He clearly wants
to help Tonga turn this around, and you could tell that Bronco
means it. I do believe him when he says that his #1 focus is making
sure these players become good leaders/men. He also said that while
he used to lose sleep over this stuff (think 2005), he no longer
does..."not at all, I don't lose sleep anymore."
He also thinks that while this is a big loss, someone would step
up, and you could tell he meant it.
Regarding Defense:
Quotes responding to 1280 punks question on defense. "Are you
losing sleep on the defense, when you have all the firepower, etc.
on offense?"
Bronco..."Not at all. I think this defense will be similar to the
last couple years. A few no named/faced players who utilize our
system to succeed."
"We will be in the TOP 10 in scoring Defense. We'll be fine."
YES, He said that. Wow.
