FAYETTEVILLE — Dismissed Arkansas linebacker Freddie Fairchild faces new criminal charges after police say he ran from an officer and threw away a bag of marijuana. Fairchild, 22, of Little Rock is charged with possession of a controlled substance and fleeing after his arrest just after midnight Sunday. A report by Fayetteville police said an officer arrived at an apartment complex near the university after receiving a noise complaint. The officer smelled burnt marijuana and shone a light on a crowd of people gathered near a car. The report alleges Fairchild began walking away and started running when the officer told him to stop. The report says the officer caught up with Fairchild after he tripped on bushes. The officer reported finding a bag with 3 grams of marijuana inside it along the path Fairchild ran. Fairchild was released just before 3 p.m. Sunday from the Washington County jail after posting a $1,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear Aug. 25 in Fayetteville District Court.
