| Not too long ago I was at the Metropolitan Museum of Art with a friend of mine. We were in the section that had the fragment of the ancient Egyptian temple, the area with the beautiful skylight which looks out over Central Park. For a moment I was just looking out this grand window, thinking to myself what a beautiful view it was, that here, in the middle of Manhattan one could actually catch a glimpse of nature. Then, suddenly, there was a voice, directed towards my friend: “Excuse me, miss? You can’t wear your backpack like that. You have to wear it at your side or you have to carry it.” I turned around, half in disbelief. My friend complied and I asked her why she had to do that. She didn’t really know. Intrigued, I just had to ask one of the security guards what the reason was. (...) ... |
