Sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) is the leading cause of death among US infants under the age of one. While the practice of putting babies to bed on their backs has reduced the rate of SIDS deaths in the US by more than half, researchers have found that simply opening a window or placing a fan in the infants bedroom can further reduce the risk. Data from a new study show that babies sleeping with fans have a 72% lower SIDS risk as compared to those without fans and that opening a window reduces risk by 36%.
