East Ascension has welcomed the tune of a regular work week leading up to its home opener against St. Charles Catholic Friday night at Spartan Stadium. “It is nice to get back into the rhythm of a regular week,” East Ascension head coach John Lamberts said. “These kids do better  when they are in that rhythm of a week and are much more comfortable.  We have had two great practices up to this point and am looking forward to another one enjoying football weather and hopefully Friday night we will get after it.” The Spartans regular season opener against Redemptorist was cancelled due to Hurricane Gustav. St. Charles Catholic defeated East Ascension 35-14 last season at Dupuy Stadium in LaPlace. “They are a very fundamentally sound team,” Lambert said. “What those St. Charles Catholic kids are told to do is exactly what they are going to do. They don’t go outside the lines. They have been given perimeters on how to play their position and they play it very well.” East Ascension is coming off a 20-0 shutout at the hands of Lutcher. The Spartans’ offense was held to 149 total yards.  Avery Williams led East Ascension with 59 yards on 14 carries. “What we have tried to do is be very positive about what happened. We understand that we didn’t play very well on offense last week. We made some mistakes and we made them coming off 10 days off,” Lambert said.  St. Charles Catholic fell 37-7 to L.W.
