What happens when a politician with an insatiable ambition to be important (A. Cuomo) faces an immovable obstacle to becoming governor because he primaried a black Democrat (McCall) once and he doesn't dare do it again (Paterson)? Answer: He considers the second most powerful job in NY. We speculated about Cuomo (left, w/ friend Sandra Lee) running for mayor of New York City earlier in the year. Yesterday, it turns out, he was asked about it and didn't exactly rule it out. From the NYT CityRoom blog : "During a news conference on Wednesday morning with the leaders of the State Legislature, Mr. Cuomo smiled broadly when asked if he was pondering a run for mayor. "Turning to Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver — no friend of the current mayor — he said, 'Did you put him up to that question? No?' and then added, 'I’m just trying to do the best job I can as attorney general.' ” ... |
