Europeans view typical action and shooter games as "evil," and prefer shorter, casual games, according to Crytek chief executive Cevat Yerli. Key to this distinction from their American brethren is the typical European lifestyle: While many Americans enjoy long stretches of free time after a strenuous day at work, their European counterparts have more numerous, but shorter periods in which to enjoy games. As Forbes points out, older consoles and consoles geared toward quick, casual games are more successful across The Pond. Nintendo's DS, for example, comprises 25 percent of the gaming market, while the more demanding Wii only makes up 7 percent. As a result, big-budget, cutting-edge action games like Crytek's own Crysis rarely do well in the territory.
