The cost of building drainage ponds to accommodate a Lowes Home Improvement store and other commercial developments along Maize Road near 29th Street north increased by more than $500,000 because of rising construction and fuel costs. City Council members this morning unanimously agreed to the increased bill, and they approved a construction engineering contract with Poe and Associates, which is already involved in building the Lowes store, Public Works Director Chris Carrier said. The project was initially slated to cost $2.9 million, with the city paying $1.7 million and developers paying $1.2 million.
