(Telecompaper) Russian and CIS telecommunications service provider Comstar-UTS reports that is broadband internet subscriber base in Russia increased 14 percent year-on-year in the first quarter, to 848,000 users in Russia at the end of March, compared to 743,000 at the end of 2007. The company added 105,000 net broadband internet subscribers in Q1. In Moscow, Comstar's broadband internet subscriber base increased 15 percent over Q4 to over 796,000 users by the end of March. The 750,000 residential subscribers accounted for 94 percent of Comstar's broadband subscriber base in Moscow. Internet speeds of 1 Mbps or above were used by 90 percent of the total residential subscriber base in Moscow. Comstar's broadband internet subscriber based in the regions totaled 52,000 users by the end of the quarter, up 8 percent against Q4. The number of pay-TV subscribers in Russia increased by 8 percent to 241,000 by the end of Q1, including 130,000 in Moscow, an increase from 122,000 at the end of 2007. During the quarter, the number of regional pay-TV subscribers therefore increased from 102,000 to 111,000. ...
