Here is my list of the top ten mascots in college football. I have ranked them from ten down to one, and you can view a picture of each by clicking on the team name. 10. West Virginia Mountaineers The cool thing about this mascot is that he is picked every year based on his academic success and school spirit. He gets to wear a coonskin hat, is allowed to carry a gun, and is forced to grow a beard. 9. Texas A&M Aggies This dog, named Reveille, was hit by a student and nursed back to health on the Aggie campus. It later became the school's mascot, and is now commissioned as a five-star general. 8. Michigan State Spartans Sparky the Spartan has changed his looks quite a bit since 1955, when he replaced a live bear named Brewer as Michigan State's mascot. He is still one of the most noticeable mascots in college football. 7. Oklahoma Sooners This mascot isn't a real mascot, but is still a very recognizable symbol in Oklahoma football. A schooner, a covered wagon, is pulled onto the field before every game and every time the Sooners score. The wagon is pulled by two Shetland ponies and started in 1964. 6. Wisconsin Badgers The best costumed mascot on this list, Bucky the Badger is also a very well-known symbol in college football. There was once a real badger patrolling the sidelines of Wisconsin football games, but that stopped in 1940 when the animal was discovered to be too mean spirited.
