Despite a growing chorus of pundits and Democratic insiders declaring her presidential candidacy dead, Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton remains determined to keep fighting for the nomination of her party, her top campaign advisers said Friday. Clinton won’t bow out of the race until either she or her opponent Sen. Barack Obama reaches 2,209 delegates, the number required to win the nomination if Democrats count the contests in Florida and Michigan, said Howard Wolfson, Clinton’s communications director. The Democratic National Committee has said either candidate needs to reach 2,025 delegates to win the nomination. The party stripped the two states of its delegates after officials in those states moved up their primary dates in violation of the Democrats’ rules. Clinton presses on with the confidence that she would be the best candidate to face Republican Sen. John McCain in a general election, her advisers said during a press breakfast sponsored by the Christian Science Monitor. And she is prepared to continue to press for the nomination even after the last primaries on June 3. "She goes on with the sense of commitment and determination that lends a great deal of strength and energy to the rest of us," said campaign strategist Geoff Garin.
