Keith Becker was re-elected president of the Unified School District Board of Education at its July meeting and Philip Larson was elected vice president for the 2008-2009 school year. Other organizational appointments included Cheryl Boesker as board clerk, Terri Hett, assistant clerk; Michelle Unruh, treasurer, Gail Wedel, Assistant treasurer; David Harger, district attorney; bill Seidl representative for school lunch program; building principals as truancy officers; and Terri Hett as KPERs agent. Other routine organizational items inlcuded: • Adopt 2008-2009 meeting times • Designate Citizens State Bank, State Bank of Canoton and Farmers State ank as official depositories. • Designate The Sentinel as official district newspaper. • Approve Hiland Dairy for the 2008-2009 milk bid. • Adopt 1,116 hour requirement for the 2008-2209 school year. • Approved home rule, waiver of general accepted accounting principles and rescinding policy statement resolutions. • Various committee appointments In other business, the board set a time for a goal setting meeting of 6:30 p.m. aug 6. The 2008-2009 budget was approved for publication. The elementary parent handbook was approved for publication. A foreign exchange student was approved. The back-to-school staff picnic will be held at 5:30 p.m. Aug. 8. The board directed Superintendent Seidl to look into hiring a physics teacher to teach night classes for the district.
