Associated Press - July 7, 2008 2:23 AM ET TOYAKO, Japan (AP) - President Bush says he considers Russia's new president a smart guy, who's comfortable, confident and means what he says. But Bush stopped short of trying to look into his soul the way he said he did with Dmitry Medvedev's (dih-MEE'-tree med-VEHD'-evz) predecessor, Vladimir Putin. Bush and Medvedev met ahead of the G-8 summit in Japan and say they found common ground on issues such as North Korea and Iran. However, they don't dispute the fact that they don't agree on other topics, such as America's desire for a European-based missile shield. Medvedev, who even referred to Bush as "George," says he plans to make good diplomatic use of Bush's final six months in office and then build on that with Bush's successor.
