The "Help is Here Express" Bus Tour will be stopping in Dodge City today to help people receive prescription medications at a discounted rate. From 1-2 p.m., the bus tour's trained specialists will be at Boot Hill Museum and Visitor's Center to assist people with the free application process. Those who qualify will have access to 475 patient assistance programs and more than 1,200 medications. The bus tour is part of a nationwide effort to provide prescription drugs to low-income individuals who need medication coverage. The Partnership of Prescription Assistance, sponsored by America's pharmaceutical research companies, created the program to raise awareness of available patient assistance programs and increase enrollment for those who are eligible. "We encourage anyone who needs help accessing medication to attend," said Jeff Gilbert, spokesperson for the PPA. Individuals who qualify for assistance can receive prescriptions for free or nearly free in as little as one to three weeks. Since the program began in April 2005, the PPA has helped more than 5 million patients. "This program has helped 54,000 people in Kansas, including 322 in Dodge City," said Gilbert.
