After his team opened with impressive wins against Division I-AA teams Western Carolina and Chattanooga, Bobby Bowden was a bit surprised that the Seminoles were in the AP Top 25. They fell out the next week in wake of a 12-3 loss to Wake Forest. Since then, the Seminoles have beaten Colorado and Miami, but are still a long way from re-entering the AP poll. FSU received 36 votes, the ninth team listed in the Others receiving votes and and 61 shy of No. 25 Ball State. "We're not in the national picture and the only way we’re going to get there is to continue to win,'' Bowden said. "There’s a lot of schools like us. In fact, I think you’ve got some undefeated teams not in the Top 25.'' One is Northwestern, which is 5-0 with Ws against Syracuse, Duke, Southern Illinois, Ohio and Iowa and is unranked (78 votes). It has a chance to impress the pollsters this weekend against No. 23 Michigan State. Tulsa is also 5-0 and unranked (85 votes) with a less-impressive list of Ws (UAB, North Texas, New Mexico, Central Arkansas and Rice), although all are by at least 23 points.
