by John McNeill BATTLE CREEK -- A Battle Creek police officer has shot a man who was holding a 9-mm assault rifle after a confrontation in the 100 block of Hubbard Street in Battle Creek. It happened at about 1AM Thursday. Police responded to a report of a man with a gun and shots fired and apparently tried to take the man into custody. The gunman is listed in stable condition after emergency surgery. The officer has been put on a paid administrative leave, while they do a routine shooting investigation to determine if the use of force was justified. ...
