The Hudson American Legion baseball team picked an opportune time for the bats to awaken from an early-season slumber. Post 100 sent 13 batters to the plate in a seven-run fifth inning en route to a 13-5 win over visiting Weston at Riverside Park. ``It was nice to see the bats comes alive,'' said Hudson manager Blair Brissette. ``When you're hitting and getting runners on base it allows to you to do more things with your offense.'' With Weston clinging to a 3-2 lead after scoring a pair of runs in the top of the fifth, Hudson broke the game open in the home half of the inning with the seven-run parade after one was out. Dan Donoghue started it with a ringing double to to left field, followed by a bunt single by Mike Ahearn. Mark Melone followed with a single ahead of pitcher Mike Wood reaching on an infield error. The carnage continued with Mike Ryan doubling into the left field gap. Evan Childs, Tim Eraldson and C.J. Ribiero drew consecutive walks. Dan Sweeney followed with a fielder's choice ahead of a single by Donoghue. When the dust had cleared, Hudson had seven hits in the inning, Weston had committed two errors and issued three walks and the home team held a 9-3 lead. Gordy Thomas had pitched reasonably well for Weston, but was chased during the fifth-inning uprising.
