It wasn’t exactly what Nassau County Executive wanted from the kickoff of his Nassau tourism promotion late last month. But, hey -- they say any advertisement is good advertisement. After he draped an oversized, ice-cream-orange Nassau tourism jacket over the smooth shoulders of his music “ambassador” and home girl Ashanti atop Rockefeller Center, somebody took a picture of her that ended up on the “Fashion Police-Citizen’s Arrest” page of this week’s edition of Us magazine. The comments that accompanied the photo were, well, snide: “Hillary Clinton’s pantsuit jackets,” “on loan from [gay entertainer] Lance Bass,” and “new spokesperson” for a well-known coat factory. Neither Ashanti nor her publicist, Michelle Huff, could be reached for comment. But Suozzi laughed and shrugged it off. “We’re proud of that coat and of Ashanti,” he said. “Don’t they know that orange is the new pink this summer? It also happens to be one of the colors of Nassau County.” The magazine simply said the photo was taken “at an event in New York City,” but neglected to mention that it was a rainy morning and Ashanti wore the jacket for all of a half-an-hour for the start of the tourism campaign.
