| With a 9-1 win over Norway in its final qualifying-round game Monday, the United States locked up third place in its group and a spot in the quarterfinals at the World Championships.
Tim Gleason, who was hit from behind into the boards on Sunday by Olli Jokinen, did not play. I'm checking on his condition. (Jokinen, by the way, once accidentally broke Gleason's foot with a shot, back in December 2006.)
They'll face Finland, a 6-3 loser to Canada on Monday, in the quarterfinals on Wednesday. (Cam Ward was on the bench for that one; no points for Eric Staal.)
Switzerland, coached by Canes scout Ralph Krueger , lost to Russia on Monday and will face the Russians again in the quarterfinals.
