Assonet resident John T. “Jack” Conway believes once one becomes a writer, one can never stop writing. Conway’s love of writing has led to interest from six different film companies, including companies from Hollywood, for his upcoming non-fiction piece “King of Heists,” which focuses on crime boss George Leslie and the Great Manhattan Bank Robbery of 1878. Both Conway, who has been writing for 32 years since he was 16, and his literary agent, Tris Coburn, say this book could represent a big break for this author. “King of Heists” is Conway’s seventh non-fiction book. Coburn and Conway both assert that this book received interest from several publishers before the two settled on Globe Pequot Lyons Press as the publisher to release the book, which will likely come out in Fall 2009. But through Coburn’s marketing skills, the book has drawn interest from more than a handful of film production companies. “Hopefully this will be a big breakout book for Jack,” Coburn said in a telephone interview. Coburn said because this Gilded Age story is a “period piece,” it will be more difficult for film companies to produce it. However, he said he was delighted with the interest it has garnered and said big names have expressed interest in it.
