AMERICAN actress Rose McGowan is to star in a new movie adaptation of comicbook warrior Red Sonja - the so-called 'She-Devil with a sword' - to be produced by her fiance Robert Rodriguez and released in 2010. McGowan, 34, is best known for playing Paige Matthews in TV series Charmed. She also portrayed actress and singer Ann-Margret in the award-winning TV miniseries Elvis about the life of Elvis Presley, had a small part in Brian da Palma's Oscar-nominated thriller The Black Dahlia and last year starred in both parts of the double-feature Grindhouse (which consisted of the Rodriguez-directed Planet Terror and the Quentin Tarantino-directed Death Proof). The Italian-born model and actress, who was engaged to rock star Marilyn Manson for two years, is also set to play the lead in a remake of Barbarella by Rodriguez, confirming in April that the movie was in production despite reports Universal had scrapped the project because studio bosses didn't believe she could carry the role. She insisted it was going ahead, saying the costumes had been completed and half the sets had been built. Rodriguez, who will make Red Sonja for Nu Image/Millennium films, told USA Today : "I was surprised when Rose brought me a script of Red Sonja that she liked. I found it very entertaining.
