Yesterday we finally hired my new Administrative Assistant.  The process was not without its dramatic moments , even down to the end.  We were deciding between two candidates, and in the end I wanted one candidate and the other two directors and ED wanted the other candidate.  Sadly [for them], the other candidate didn’t take the job and I got my way. And now I’m keeping my fingers crossed that it’s a good hire. For those of you who are just coming out of college and looking for jobs, I have some advice for you. Google yourself.  Review your MySpace and Facebook pages, if you have them.  Most definitely potential employers will be doing the same, so I suggest you remove anything that could be incriminating, embarrassing, or cause a potential employee to wonder if you might make a good addition to the office.  If your friends have blogs and name names, beg them to remove anything potentially bad.  Don’t give any indication online that you’re a smoker, because smokers are not a protected group - we actually went three rounds in the office over a candidate because he’s a smoker and it might cause our insurance premiums to rise. Make sure your resume, cover letter, and references are letter perfect.  This should go without saying, but apparently it’s not said enough.  Oh, and be sure to have your references prepped and have them with you at every interview on which you go.  Some people are insane about this, and will consider you unp ...
