Avid birders and nature enthusiasts make Concord’s Great Meadows Wildlife Refuge a regular destination. Many others are unaware what lies off of Monsen Road in Concord. Beyond the small sign that sits on Route 62, there are over 3,600 acres of land that serves as a home to a wide array of animal and plant life as well as a sanctuary for migratory birds. In the past ten years, over 220 species of birds have been recorded in the refuge. GMWR is one of more than 540 refuges in the National Wildlife Refuge system in the United States.
