The Grave Of Confucious I was very impressed by the 2500 year old grave of Confucious in the small town of Qufu, Shandong Province. I was half expecting yet another great mausoleum or souvenir selling temple to be marking the spot, but the grave was nothing more than a large mound of grass in the middle of an enormous forested graveyard of Confucious family members. The Entrance To The Graveyard Itself Was A Lot Grander Than the Grave Since his death, disciples have planted trees and those trees have become a wonderful forest full of burial mounds. It's all very natural and would make a very peaceful place to sleep ( I love sleeping in graveyards, they are the most peaceful places in town). A Tiny Part Of The Huge Graveyard Nowadays the funeral business is an industry. In Japan people spend thousands of dollars just to get a Buddhist monk to come and say a few chants. In Europe and the US you almost have to take a new mortgage out to get buried. Coffins are fabulously expensive and the limousines are the same, and of course they are very environmentally polluting. It's got to the stage where it might be cheaper to stay alive. So I like the idea of a green funeral. My mum has often said “What a waste of money for an undertaker. Just dump me in the rubbish bin.” These Ancient Statues Had Awesome Energy I'm not advocating dumping dear old mum, dad and granny in the bin, but it might a good idea to do away with the undertaker.
