It is proving to be quite a season of severe weather in many parts of the country so far this summer. We’ve been dealing with quite an early heat wave here in northwestern Virginia and although it is early, you know the only way it is going to break is after a series of thunderstorms. In our very rural area heavy thunderstorms usually mean the power goes in and out during Mother Nature’s show time. We have a pretty standard routine here when that occurs. We shut down they myriad of desktop computers in the office and unplug things like copiers and printers. Just to be on the safe side, I will also frequently shut down the server, even though it has surge protection and an uninterruptible power supply. We’re in the middle of one of those rocking and rolling storms right now and most of the staff is watching it happen while those of us with laptops (a Tablet PC in my case) are continuing to work using battery power. Just my luck the power will go out and knock the router and cable modem off line before I post this. But if that occurs, I’ll tether up to the Sprint Mogul and post via EVDO.
