In an attempt to break cable’s current hegemony over U.S. broadband growth, AT&T is offering a $125 cash back bonus to any cable user who switches to one of its high-speed internet services. In addition to this, any new customer who signs up for AT&T broadband by November 15 will receive a special introductory price for the first two years, without having to sign a contract. The telecom giant says that it is trying to target price-sensitive college and university students who may want to cancel their subscriptions at the end of the school year in 8 to 10 months. “Broadband is a must for kids as they head back to school, and with our guaranteed price, parents can make a sound, secure investment in their children’s education,” commented AT&T chief marketing officer, Rick Welday.
