Staten Island GOP Chairman John Friscia is working the phones this morning in an attempt to get all interested parties together to agree on a 13th CD candidate by June 10th. "I have no name for you just yet," said Friscia, whose plans are to file the roughly 1,550 signatures gathered for Frank Powers before he died last month. Asked whether his organization might support former Assemblyman Robert Straniere, who is circulating petitions on his own, Friscia replied: "I'm not saying that we are, and I'm not saying we're not going to." Friscia also seemed unconcerned about former Staten Island Borough President Guy Molinari's anger over what he sees as a lack of leadership in trying to settle on a candidate to replace Rep. Vito Fossella and Molinari's subsequent threat to challenge Friscia for the chairmanship next year. "We had a conversation last Thursday," Friscia said. "He had a very strong opinion about the things I should be doing, and I advised him he and I would differ on his opinion." "...Let me put it this way," Friscia continued. "I don't want to insult him by saying I'm not concerned. People are frustrated. People are upset. People say things in the heat of the moment...I'd like to think once we have a candidate he will be supportive of that candidate."
