A movie crew has been patrolling Eastern Connecticut filming “Marathon,” a story about the late poet laureate and Pulitzer Prize winner William Meredith and his longtime partner Richard Harteis. Produced by the William Meredith Foundation and co-sponsored by the Norwich Arts Council, “Marathon” is about Harteis’ journey training for a marathon while Meredith journeys toward death after suffering a stroke. It’s based on Harteis’ memoir of the same name. The crew has filmed at The Westerly Hospital, Harkness Memorial State Park in Waterford and Avery Point in Groton, among other locations. Friday, they filmed at the Donald Oat Theatre in Norwich. Members of the cast and crew spoke about the film: Director Biju Viswanath: “For me, it’s the tale of a romance and friendship. It’s universal. Basic friendships are the same. It can be in Japan, it can be in India. It’s about finding your inner strength.” Harteis: “It’s ‘Marathon,’ but it’s not ‘Chariots of Fire.’ ” Actor Bristol Pomeroy (playing Harteis): “It’s a story about endurance. ... It was a relationship that, from what I can see, was very loving and required strength and endurance.” Second Assistant Director Susan Miner: “It’s not only a beautiful story, but it’s a piece of art.” Viswanath on Eastern Connecticut: “It’s a very beautiful place.
