(Wizards of the Coast) The new set of Star Wars Miniatures , Knights of the Old Republic , hit today and Ben, Chris and I have already plucked down for booster packs with mixed results. Well, mixed for Ben and Chris. I got me some wicked good pieces like Darth Vader, Scourge of the Jedi (a tough hombre with Djem So Style, a type of Lightsaber Riposte without the Force cost) and Zayne Carrick (a lightsaber-wielding Fringer with Karmic Mettle, which gives him +4 if he spends a Force point to reroll). The set favors characters from the KOTOR video games and comics, though it has some other head-turning pieces. Consider Jar Jar Binks . Yes, really. Jar Jar might make fanboy brains bleed but as a mini — and I can't believe I'm saying this — he kind of rocks. The goofy Gungan can draw fire and even redirect attacks, so you benefit from putting him in harm's way. How's that for rewarding the Jar Jar hate? As for the best mini of the bunch, I guess I'll tip my hat to Darth Sion . Sion's pricey at 69, but think of him as up to three minis in one. See, Sion has this mean ability called Eternal Hatred. Whenever he's defeated, just spend two Force points and make a save of 6 and he's restored to his full 110 hit points. He's a Force 5 character, so should you succeed the first time you get two chances to bring him back. Too sick. And too tempting.
